Who am I and why are we here?
That’s getting pretty existential for a writing blog but, I guess, maybe to entertain some primordial cosmic being with our failed attempts at forming a functional society and perpetual desire to trigger our own extinction. Too much? I get it.
This blog, on the other hand, is here because 2020 kicked me square in the swimsuit area. After working as a copywriter for close to a decade, I got laid off and freelance work slowly dried up like the Sahara. So, I decided to start writing about the things I wanted to write about and make a bunch of immature jokes that I hope will bring a brief moment of joy to some digital stranger’s day.
Basically, we’re all here because writing (and the English language) is an endlessly infuriating practice that constantly makes us question what we’re doing, how to do it, and if other people are going through the same shit. Answers: I don’t know, I don’t know, and I’m pretty sure they are.
Oh yeah, I’m Mike.
Writing advice is subjective. The joy/misery of writing is universal.
I'm not a fucking expert. When it comes to writing, few people are. But the internet and our society are awash with imitators, impostors, and impotent gurus who claim that they, and only they, are the ones who know best.
That's not me. I’m just a wayward wordsmith. Everything I know, I learned the hard way and I'm still learning new shit every day. I started wrongsideofwrite because I genuinely want to help people elevate their writing and develop a better understanding of how and why we communicate the way we do. But like everything I do, I had to do it with an unhealthy dose of cursing and sarcasm. You’re welcome.
I hope you’ll find the content I post on here engaging, entertaining, insightful, and possibly even helpful.
Thanks for stopping by :)
